The unique PATENTED SHAPE of the Free Heat solar collector is the secret.
Solar radiation travels in parallel lines.
For this primary reason, the three flat surfaces surrounding each water tube increase the physical surface area that is exposed to the sun's radiation.
Secondly, a flat surface will always absorb the incoming radiation more intensely than any tube that has a round, oval, or ribbed outer surface.
In addition to this exclusive feature, our latest innovation has been to compress the normally round water channel within each tube into an oval shape.

This has the dual benefit of spiralling the flowing water within each tube, thereby exposing the entire water volume travelling through our Free Heat solar collector to the larger, more intense area of radiation being absorbed by the flat, outer surfaces.
Also, spreading out the exposed volume of water flowing through the tubing enables the Sun's heat to transmit much faster into the water.
The end result is that your pool will heat up quicker and achieve a higher temperature gain in a shorter amount of operating time.
As the flat surfaces of the tubes absorb up to 19% more incident heat from the sun's rays by comparison to the ordinary round tubed solar absorbers or panels, you can see that there will be a corresponding increase in the heat absorbed by the circulating water in the tubes, thereby increasing the overall efficiency of the Free Heat Solar Pool Heating unit when compared to other systems.
PERFORMANCE
The design efficiency of a solar pool heating system is determined by a number of factors.
Firstly, by its location.
If in Australia,
are you in a warmer climate, Sydney, Port Macquarie, Gold Coast, Brisbane to Mackay up to Cairns, or the colder regions of Melbourne, Hobart, Adelaide or Perth?
In NewZealand: North or South Island
In the Southern Hemisphere:
1. Any roof that is sloping towards the North is the most efficient.
However, Free Heat solar pool heating can be successful when professionally designed and sized to suit the direction it faces, and will be effective anywhere from an Easterly direction through North to West.
Free Heat solar heating on a flat roof is also excellent because we have the flat surfaces on the tubing that mimic the slope of a normal roof.
Our designs are successful when an area of land is allocated near the pool if a suitable roof is not available.
2. The number of square metres of solar collector that are installed relative to the size, or surface area, the depth and water volume of the pool to be heated.
The minimum recognised guidelines are to start with the same surface area as the pool used as solar collector eg: 9m x 4m pool = 36 sqm solar collector.
Be very cautious when claims are made such as:
*Our solar collector is so efficient we don't need to use as many square metres.
*Or : our collector has more lineal metres of tubing per square metre therefore....
The truth is: there is a finite amount of solar radiation that falls onto a square metre of solar collector per day.
Its simple-The less square metres of solar collector area you end up with, the less heat you can gain.
We say-Always ask how many square metres of solar collector are being offered.
THE FREEHEAT RETURN SENSOR TEMPERATURE CONTROLLER.
In this day and age of complex devices and the programming requirements for push button digital technology, Keeping it Simple has always been our motto, and this is becoming more sought after daily.
The Free Heat Return Sensor Temperature Controller -
No other control device could possibly have as many features and yet be so simple to use.
We have three models to choose from depending on how your pool has been piped.
Older pools with only the filter piping available will need our Standard Model. no timer.
Newer pools that have separate pipes fitted into the pool for heating can choose from the Standard Timer Model or the Battery Backup Timer model.(shown below)
The single, three position switch located Top /Centre on the panel controls the OFF, ON and AUTO functions.
Once turned ON , a temperature test cycle will begin which lasts for about 3 to 4 minutes.
During this time the solar pump circulates water through the Free Heat solar pool heating system and the white and red sensors monitor the temperature differential between the pool water and the heated water returning to the pool.
Assuming that the water returning to the pool is hotter than the pool water by at least 1+ degrees Celsius, and that the pool is not up to its set temperature, the solar pump will continue to send the pool or spa water through the solar collector until the pool actually reaches the set temperature on the red dial.
If the returning water comes back within the 1 degree differential the controller senses this and shuts the pump down because there would be no appreciable gain at that point.
If the test cycle reveals insufficient heat, the controller will continue to monitor and a repeat test cycle will occur within 15 to 20 minutes.
Many other Solar systems use a temperature controller that has a roof temperature sensor probe and a pool sensor or even remote control sensors that require regular battery changes, and these usually have the sensor differential calibrated from 4 to 7 degrees celcius to prevent the pump from cycling.
In effect, purchasing one of these systems means that the roof has to be up to 7 degrees C hotter than the pool before the solar heating even turns itself on.
That's a lot of heating potential that you won't miss out on in the colder months just by choosing to get a Free Heat Solar Pool Heating System.

3 models available.
When switched to the Manual position , the Free Heat solar system will let you cool the pool by running it at night time for a few hours during the hot summer months.
In Auto, all you have to do is set the Temperature dial to the exact temperature you would like, relax & enjoy.
The LED lights will visually tell you what your solar system is doing.
The housing is all-weather, it is powder coated and the electronics circuits are insulated from moisture.
OTHER UNIQUE FEATURES OF OUR FREE HEAT SOLAR POOL HEATING
- The unique dovetail mechanical keyway between each tube ensures that the solar pool heating system will be securely bonded to its mounting surface by our recommended cold setting adhesive. Clip system is available if preferred.
- Each water channel is totally exposed to the sun side which is where the most heat comes from. (refer to template sketch above)
- Each Free Heat solar pool heating system is designed specifically to suit your requirements, to maximise its efficiency, to extend your swimming season, and also to blend aesthetically in to your home's environment so it becomes an asset.
- Adherence to our recommendations and the attention to detail, colour matching pipe work to the walls and roof, ensuring the piping is neat and tidy, and shaping the solar absorber to fit neatly into the available roof area guarantees you an investment you will be proud of and one you will be happy to recommend to others.
- The DIY handyman kits we supply and design come with a comprehensive instructions manual to fit and operate.
OTHER APPLICATIONS
- The FREE HEAT solar collector is also used as a heat exchanger to both collect and distribute heat in seedling propogation, by food and flower growers.
- Many horticulture applications.
- In Aquaculture, prawn farming, crocodile hatcheries, chicken hatcheries, piggeries, heat recovery.
- Underfloor heating.
- Commercial pool heating and high volume pre -heating for Hotels, Motels, and laundries hot water systems.
